LEWISTON – A Sabattus man accused of fondling himself in front of children in downtown Lewiston followed one group of children in his truck after exposing himself, according to a police affidavit released Friday.

Police said that on Dec. 19, David R. Fifield, 51, sat in his truck and displayed his genitals after waving over a 13-year-old girl who was walking with a friend and with her 5-year-old brother near Longley School.

Those victims told police that after they passed the truck, the driver drove slowly behind them to the corner of Birch and Bates streets. He then drove away, they said.

Fifield is also accused of exposing himself to another girl who was walking along Spruce Street after leaving the Lewiston Public Library.

In that incident, Fifield turned on the truck dome light to illuminate his private parts, according to the affidavit.

On Thursday, Fifield was arrested after turning himself in at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn. He was charged with three counts of visual sexual aggression and later released on $5,000 cash bail.

When Fifield was questioned, he first denied being in downtown Lewiston the day of the complaint, according to the affidavit.

He later admitted that he had been in the downtown area, but said he stopped only to make a phone call.

According to the affidavit, the victims identified both Fifield and his truck in a photo lineup as part of the investigation.

Fifield, owner of The Settlement store in Sabattus, was ordered to stay away schools and parks and to refrain from having contact with anyone under the age of 18.
