LEWISTON – Donald MacFarlane, 68, of Strafford Avenue in Rumford, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, at CMMC after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born and raised in Boston and attended school there. He lived in Quincy, Mass., and worked as a carpenter at Boston City Hospital until his retirement in 1996. After retirement, he often volunteered his woodworking skills to help others.
Don and his wife, Jane, moved to Maine four years ago. He loved fishing, camping and the outdoors. He had a strong spirit and survived cancer several times before.
He is survived by his wife, Jane C. Gould MacFarlane of Rumford; his mother, Mabel MacFarlane of Quincy, Mass.; a daughter, Jane-Sarah MacFarlane of Lowell, Mass.; and two sisters, Bonnie McCarthy and husband, Gene, of Somerville, Mass., and Christine Mannetta and husband, Pat, of Quincy, Mass.
He was predeceased by his father; a daughter, Jennifer; and a brother, Alexander MacFarlane Jr.
