SKOWHEGAN (AP) – A Palmyra man pleaded not guilty Wednesday at his Somerset County Superior Court arraignment in the fatal shooting of his live-in girlfriend’s 13-year-old son more than a month ago.

Todd Curry, 39, is charged with murder in the death of Anthony Tucker, who was shot multiple times in the head outside Curry’s home on Nov. 28.

Curry was hospitalized at Riverview Psychiatric Hospital in Augusta after suffering a mental breakdown following the shooting, and is now being held at the Maine State Prison in Warren.

His attorney, Janet Mills, said Wednesday that her client’s actions were bizarre and irrational, but were not a case of domestic abuse.

“He had no reason to kill this boy whom he was very fond of,” Mills said.

Curry was scheduled to return to court on Friday for a bail hearing and to determine where he should be held pending his trial.

Anthony’s mother, April Cooley, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Curry, alleging that he routinely threatened her and her three children.

Family members said the shooting took place as Anthony was helping his family out of the house to safety.
