PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island College senior guard Kinsey Durgin of Greenwood scored his 1,000th career point on a layup with 15:44 left in the second half, giving Rhode Island College the lead for good in an 88-80 win over Bridgewater State Thursday at The Murray Center.

Durgin drove the baseline and made a tough layup, despite being fouled, to become the 27th member of the Rhode Island College 1,000 Career Point Club.

Durgin, who starred at Telstar High School, logged a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with three assists and a steal.

Maine 64, UNH 47

ORONO – Katie Whittier of Gray scored 16 points and hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Maine to a 64-47 victory over New Hampshire in the America East conference opener.

The Black Bears (7-5) controlled the tempo. Their defense forced 17 turnovers and outscored UNH 24-7 off of turnovers.Ashley Underwood led Maine with 17 points, while leader Bracey Barker, returning from injury, scored 11 points off the bench. Danielle Clark led UNH (5-7) with 17 points.
