PORTLAND (AP) – Curtis Glencross scored the game-winner and Mike Wall made 23 saves, leading the Portland Pirates past the Manchester Monarchs 4-1 Sunday in American Hockey League action.

After a scoreless first period, the Pirates (19-12-1-4) grabbed the lead when Drew Miller scored from a goal-mouth scramble at 13:24 of the second. Noah Clarke put the Monarchs (21-11-6-1) into a 1-1 tie with a blast from the right circle at 16:27.

Glencross netted the game-winner on a backhander from the slot 1:48 into the third period.

The Pirates iced the game with a pair of empty-net goals in the final minute from Ryan Shannon and Ryan Carter.

Wall was outstanding all night. His best play was stopping Patrick O’Sullivan’s breakaway bid at 16:10 of the first.
