JAY – Jay school bus driver/custodians will receive a 3 percent raise for each year of a new three-year contract and pay more for health insurance.

The Jay School Committee approved the pact Thursday, retroactive to July 1, 2005. It runs through June 30, 2008, Chairman Clint Brooks said Friday.

Pay for the bus driver/custodians – a combined position – retroactively rose to $15.54 per hour for the first year of the contract, $16.01 per hour for this year and will go to $16.49 in the third year, Superintendent Robert Wall said.

Employees’ contribution to health insurance premiums will also be retroactive, he said.

In the previous contract in the 2004-05 year, bus driver/custodians paid $55 monthly for a single health plan, $60 for adult with child, $65 for two adults and $70 for family, Wall said.

The new contract calls for employees to pay a percentage of their health insurance with the school system picking up the rest.

The monthly cost for health insurance plans in 2005-06 were $445.32 for a single, $778.12 for adult with child, $1,003.67 for two adults, and $1,221.60 for a family.

Under the contract, in 2005-06, bus driver/custodians with a single plan stayed the same paying $55, while employees with dependent coverage were responsible for 10 percent of the cost.

In the current year, 2006-07, those employees pay 12 percent of the cost for a single plan, 11 percent of the cost for those with dependents.

In the third year, bus driver/custodians pay 13 percent of the cost for all plans.

In other matters, Brooks said the committee extended Wall’s contract by one year to July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. His pay will be negotiated and be brought back to the full board for approval in February, Brooks said.

The board also accepted the resignations of Chris Ellingwood, special education; Robert Dayson, custodian/bus driver and Frank Williams, IT director effective July 1, Brooks said.
