Round table

BRUNSWICK – Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Brunswick Junior High School cafeteria, Colombia Avenue. Speaker will be Bill Hallett, president of the New Hampshire Civil War Round Table. Subject will be “The Role of News Media in the Civil War.” The meeting is free and open to the public. Church meeting

HEBRON – The board of trustees have announced that Hebron Community Baptist Church, at the corner of the Hebron Academy campus, will hold its 216th annual meeting on Sunday, Jan. 14, following the 10 a.m. worship service. There will be a potluck luncheon, and members are asked to bring a salad or casserole to share. Beverage and dessert will be provided. For details, call Pastor Meredith Dalessandro at 966-2694.

Health screening

LEWISTON – Prevention and Wellness at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center is sponsoring a Take Charge! cardiovascular health risk screening. The program tests cholesterol, blood pressure, sleep habits, body mass index, smoking impact and physical activity level. Participants receive a full report on the results of the tests and recommendations on ways to improve their health.

A screening will take place from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave. Cost is $30. To register, call the Prevention and Wellness office at 777-8898.

VFW meeting

LISBON – Post 9459, VFW, and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the post home, Route 196. All members are encouraged to attend, and new members are welcome. For more information, call 353-2152.

Seniors install

AUBURN – The New Auburn Senior Citizens held installation of officers for 2007: Virginia Levasseur, president; Fern Bussiere, vice president; Irene Delorme, secretary; Delice Blais, treasurer; and Joyce Bickford, correspondence secretary and publicity.

The group will meet for a spaghetti and meatball dinner at noon Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Louis Church basement, Third Street. Cost is $3 and it is for members only.

A regular meeting was held Jan. 3 with Levasseur presiding. January birthdays were noted and token gifts given. A few trips were offered: Foxwoods, Feb. 13, $34; Mohegan and Foxwoods, two-day trip, $128 a person, double occupancy; and maple sugar party, April 17 and 26, Lake Megantic, $30. Call Jean at 784-5264.

Pot of gold winners were Betty Bates, Delice Blais, Dot Strassen and Theresa Goulet.

The meeting adjourned, a light lunch was served and bingo followed. Open bingo for seniors 60 and over will be held Jan. 10, 24 and 31.
