Dear Sun Spots: We are looking for any bowlers out in Sun Spots land or the surrounding areas!

We at The Lewiston Education Fund are looking for bowling teams for our second annual SuperBowling Saturday event at noon Feb. 3 at Sparetime Recreation Center. The event is open to everyone at any age and skill level.

The $125 five-person-team entry fee must be submitted, with the names of a designated team captain and all team players by Monday, Jan. 29, to Richard Albert, event co-chairman, 59 East Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240. Forms are available at all local school offices or at the Dingley Building at 36 Oak St., Lewiston. Refreshments and pizza will be provided again this year. Only 18 lanes are available this year so please sign up today.

Lane sponsorships are available at $100 and will provide advertising with a company or individual sponsor’s banner at the end of a designated lane. Please contact Filomena Day at 777-3232 by Jan. 23 to be included as one of this year’s lane sponsors.

The nonprofit organization was established in 2002 to fund projects and programs that expand educational opportunities, foster creativity and enhance academic excellence in Lewiston’s public schools. The proceeds from this fundraiser will provide grants to Lewiston teachers. Please visit www.lewistoneducationfund.org for a description of grants awarded by LEF during the past two years.

Thank you Sun Spots and readers and we look forward to a big team turnout Feb. 3. – Filomena Day and Dick Albert, LEF Fundraising Committee co-chairs, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: Would Sun Spots know of the person in the Augusta area who purchases old sewing machines? I have a 1934 Singer machine in very good working condition that I would like to sell. Thank you. – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots was not able to locate this person and welcomes readers who may be aware of any to please write in to the column and update readers.

Dear Sun Spots: I recycle Christmas holiday cards into gift tags. If anyone still has their cards, I will pick them up in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Or please send them to me, and I will reimburse your postage and send you a packet of tags. Please call me at 786-3014. – Carol, Auburn.

Answer:
Carol wondered if perhaps her request might elicit a “mountain” of cards. However, Sun Spots has to say the samples Carol provided were beautiful and even better than those that are store-bought. Others wishing to reduce and recycle might also consider this option for recycling cards. In addition there are several Web sites out there that provide some great creative and inexpensive ideas that might be something you and others would be willing to try.

Dear Sun Spots: I would like the mailing address for Dan Rather from 60 Minutes for an old lady in a nursing home. She is a very big fan of his and would like to write to him. She has pictures of him all around her bed. Thank you. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Consider trying to contact him through Mel Karmazin, president VIACOM/CBS Corporation, 1515 Broadway, New York, NY 10036, 212-975-3247.
