BOSTON – Jason Blake and Miroslav Satan each scored goals in the shootout to lift the New York Islanders to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.

Satan scored on the Islanders’ first shootout attempt and the Bruins extended it to sudden death when Marc Savard scored on the Bruins’ third shot.

Brad Boyes than failed to convert and Blake put a shot over the shoulder of Bruins goalie Hannu Toivonen for the game-winner.

Viktor Kozlov tied the game at 4 for the Islanders with 1:39 remaining in regulation when he scored a power-play goal by sliding the puck past Toivonen.

The Islanders won for only the second time in the last eight games and in 20 games when trailing after two.

Paul Mara had provided the Bruins a short-lived 4-3 lead with 6:15 remaining in the game when he went around a helpless Sean Hill and slid the puck past Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro.

Boston has only one win in the last six and allowed three goals or more for the ninth straight game.

Tom Poti scored the Islanders second power-play goal to tie the game at 3 with 10:29 remaining in the third. New York began the night 2-for-39 over its previous 10 games on the power play.

Zdeno Chara had given Boston a 3-2 lead when he scored on a slap shot from the point with 15:40 remaining.

Trent Hunter tied the game at 2 for the Islanders 22 seconds into the third period when he flipped the puck past Toivonen.

Patrice Bergeron and Savard each scored in the opening 8:40 to put the Bruins ahead 2-0. Bergeron scored on a rebound of his own shot and Savard scored on a backhander while DiPietro was out of position.

Randy Robitaille cut the Bruins lead in half at 2-1 when he tipped a shot by Satan beating Toivonen 5:39 into the second period.

P.J. Axelsson and Savard had two assists for the Bruins.

Senators 6, Rangers 4

NEW YORK – Daniel Alfredsson gave Ottawa a five-goal lead early in the third period and the Senators then held off New York’s furious rally to beat the Rangers 6-4 Thursday night.

Just two nights after a lackluster 5-3 home loss to the New York Islanders that snapped a four-game winning streak and caused a rare postgame rant from coach Tom Renney, the Rangers fell behind 5-0 early in the third period.

Hurricanes 6, Panthers 4

RALEIGH, N.C. – Cory Stillman scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, and the Carolina Hurricanes rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Florida Panthers 6-4 on Thursday night.

Chad LaRose, Erik Cole, Scott Walker, Craig Adams and Ray Whitney also scored for the Hurricanes, who trailed 3-0 after two periods before scoring each of their goals in a span of about 10 minutes in the third – their first five-goal third period since Oct. 28, 2005, against Philadelphia.

Maple Leafs 4, Sabres 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jeff O’Neill scored twice and Mats Sundin added two assists, lifting the banged-up Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night.

Alex Steen had a goal and assist, and Pavel Kubina also scored in a game the Maple Leafs never trailed. Sundin’s two assists gave him 495 with Toronto, moving him into third on the team’s career list, two ahead of former captain Dave Keon.

Canadiens 4, Flyers 2

PHILADELPHIA – Chris Higgins scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period and added an assist to help the Montreal Canadiens beat Philadelphia 4-2 on Thursday night, handing the Flyers their fifth straight loss.

Mike Johnson, Alex Kovalev, and Michael Ryder also scored for the Canadiens, who won their second straight. Tomas Plekanec and Andrei Markov each had two assists for Montreal.

Lightning 5, Capitals 4

TAMPA, Fla. – Vincent Lecavalier had two goals and an assist and Martin St. Louis snapped a third-period tie with his 28th goal of the season, giving the Tampa Bay Lightning a 5-4 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

Vinny Prospal had a goal and two assists and Ryan Craig also scored for the Lightning, who got 18 saves from goaltender Johan Holmqvist to match a season high with their third straight win.

Alexander Semin scored two goals and Alexander Ovechkin had two assists for Washington, which had won three in a row following a tough stretch in which the Capitals lost seven of eight games.
