LEWISTON – Healthy Androscoggin is teaming up with Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center to offer ways to become tobacco-free in 2007. There will be two five-session quit smoking classes offered.

The first class will start at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. The second class will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Central Maine Medical Center.

Both classes are for individuals ready to quit. As part of the class, participants will choose a quit date on or before Jan. 31. Both classes will be taught by trained facilitators and will offer guidance and expertise to help participants develop a quit plan and prevent relapse. There is a fee for either class and preregistration is required.

Another option is the tobacco support group, for individuals who are ready to quit or are thinking about quitting. The group meets from 6 to l7 p.m. Thursdays in the Lepage Conference Center at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, 99 Campus Ave. The group is free and no preregistration is required.

The final option is the 2007 Quit and Win Program, a five-week, quit smoking incentive program. Quit smoking on or before Jan. 15 and stay quit until Feb. 19 and those participating will be eligible for a drawing to win up to $500.

Healthy Androscoggin will also send a quit kit in the mail after sign up. The program is free, but participants must sign up online at www.healthyandroscoggin.org or by calling 795-5990.
