WORCESTER, Mass. – Karen Sirois scored 20 points and Erin Johnson added a career-high 16 points to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 86-37 triumph over Becker in women’s basketball Saturday.
UMF (9-3) broke the game open with an 11-0 run midway through the first half.
Amherst 65, Bates 51
AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst used an early surge in the second half to pull away for a 65-51 victory over Bates in women’s basketball Saturday.
Katie Franklin led Bates (9-6) with a career-high 14 points. Bates shot just 28 percent from the field.
USM 77, Keene 59
GORHAM – Senior forward Ashely Marble had a spectacular outing with 33 points and 20 rebounds to hoist the University of Southern Maine to a 77-59 victory over Keene State in LEC women’s basketball action Saturday.
Marble was a force inside for the Huskies (13-1), making 8-of-18 from the field while collecting 15-of-18 attempts from the free-throw line. Junior Dawn Ross, who keyed a pivotal scoring run in the late going, also established a career-high 15 points off the bench.
Bowdoin 56, Middlebury 44
BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin jumped out to a 19-0 lead and never looked back, cruising to a 56-44 win over Middlebury in NESCAC women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Sharp shooting and a stifling defense provided the basis for an early Polar Bear (15-0) run, as Eileen Flaherty scored nine points in the spurt. Flaherty led all scorers with 17 points, while Jill Anelauskas added 16.
Williams 76, Colby 55
WATERVILLE – Maggie Miller finished with 23 points and Meghan Stetson added 22 as Williams College posted a 76-55 win over Colby in NESCAC women’s basketball action Saturday.
Miller shot 11-for-18 from the field and had seven rebounds and three blocked shots for the Ephs (12-3). Stetson was 9-for-12 from the field, including a 3-for-6 effort from 3-point range.
Alison Cappelloni led the Mules (2-10) with 19 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Mitchell 66, St. Joe’s 63
STANDISH – St. Joseph’s failed on two attempts to tie the game in the final 12 seconds to drop a 66-63 decision to Mitchell in women’s basketball Saturday.
The visitors led by seven with four minutes to play before the Monks (5-8) stormed back. St. Joe’s closed to within a single point, but could not get over the top.
Carolyn Freeman led St. Joe’s with 16 points and eight rebounds.
