RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board of directors meeting, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 22, has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 29.

Class luncheon

MEXICO – Members of the Stephens High School Class of 1949 will meet for luncheon at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Covered Wagon.

WOWS meeting

RUMFORD – The Widows or Widowers Sharing will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in fellowship hall of Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street, weather permitting.

Louise Stickney will start the new year off with a program on movement. She is known as leader of the local Moving Freely sessions featuring fun and flexibility. All area widows and widowers are welcome.

Dance on tap

RUMFORD – A dance will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Snowshoe Club, Waldo Street. Admission is $2 to help the king and queen candidates. The dance is open to members and guests.

Story hour

MEXICO – The preschool story and craft hour at the Mexico Public Library at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, will feature stories about animals in the wintertime. Titles include “Playful Puppies,” Anonymous; “Cat and Mouse in the Snow” by Tomek Bogacki; “Lighthouse Lullaby” by Kelly Paul Briggs; “Polar Babies” by Susan Ring; and “Snow” by Uri Shulevitz. The craft for the day will be polar bear puppets.

College workshop

RUMFORD – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will hold an “Essentials of College Planning” workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the Rumford Career Center, 60 Lowell St.

The center is a federally funded program that helps qualified adults make the transition toward a college education.

The program, which is housed at the University of Maine, provides assistance for qualified adults living in Maine and helps them go to whichever college or university they choose. All services are free.

The interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills.

Preregistration for the workshop is required.

Completes course

RUMFORD – Rumford Police Chief Stacy Carter has reported that Patrolman Matthew Noyes recently received his Maine motor vehicle inspection certification.

Noyes underwent several months of preparation to complete the course and test at no cost to the town of Rumford.

Officers regularly face motor vehicle safety violations that create dangerous travel situations. Because Noyes chose to educated himself, Carter said, it provides one more tool for patrol officers to work toward the department’s mission statement of providing a safe and secure town.
