Pro-life speaker

LEWISTON – St. Joseph’s Church, Main Street, will commemorate the 34th anniversary of Roe Vs Wade on Saturday, Jan. 20. Parishioners will recite the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. followed by a Mass at 4 p.m. There will be a pro-life speaker in the church hall and a bean supper at 5:15 p.m. All are welcome.

Talk on arts

AUBURN – The Monday, Jan. 22, meeting of the Auburn Art Club will be held at 2 p.m. at the High Street Congregational Church.

Andrew Harris, executive director of L/A Arts, will be the guest speaker. Harris, a British citizen, is living in Maine full time.

A graduate of London University and the Guild School of Music, he is a film and stage actor and director as well as an advisory teacher and lecturer on theater in education.

He will discuss the role of L/A Arts in the community.

Hostesses will be Dorothy Murray, Carole Walker and Helen Levesque.

Exercise fun

LEWISTON – The Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute will present “Exercise Can Be Fun” on Monday and Thursday, Jan. 22 and 25.

Exercise physiologist Jim Trytek will discuss how a “heart health maintenance” routine can be effective and fun. The presentations will free.

Participants are not required to wear exercise clothing to participate in the lecture-demonstration program. The classes will be held in the Young Wing conference room at 1 p.m. Monday and 6 p.m. Thursday.

Line dancing

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens office is taking registrations for Monday line dancing. The 10-week session for intermediates will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 22 to April 2 and beginners from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 22 to April 23.

Cost is $20 for Lewiston Senior Citizens and $35 for others.

Coalition speaker

LEWISTON – The National Active Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Ramada Inn. Tara Thornton of the Endangered Species Coalition will be the speaker.

Plans for the meeting were made at the home of Vi Dumais. Attending were Sue Stetson, Mike and Flo Bohunicky, Doris Hamel and Joanne Morse.

Adoption is topic

LEWISTON – MAPS Adoption and Humanitarian Aid, a licensed, accredited nonprofit adoption agency, will hold a free informational session about adopting from China, Russia, India, Peru, Nepal, Guatemala, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the U.S. at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Lewiston Public Library.

Plan derby

TURNER – Scout Pack 187 of Turner will hold a Pinewood Derby race Saturday, Jan. 27, at Boofy Quimby Memorial Center. Pack 187 contains 44 Scouts. The top five, with sixth place the alternative, will move on the district contest, slated for April 14.

The doors will open at 8 a.m. for the weigh-ins and the races will begin at 9. There will be concessions, with all the proceeds raised going to the pack.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 16 were: first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Nancy Farmer and Claire Lyons; third, Patricia Smith and Shirley West.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Jan. 17 were: first-second tie, Martine Begert and Patricia Garcia with Sharron Hinckley and John Hackett; third, Rosemarie Goodwin and Paul Barber.
