AUBURN – Kaleb Violette poured in 39 points and hauled down 12 rebounds as he dominated both ends of the court in helping Central Maine Technical College defeat New Hampshire Technical Institute 81-77 in men’s college basketball Friday night.

Violette scored 26 of the Mustangs’ 35 first-half points. He also blocked three shots and turned in a pair of steals. The Mustangs held a 35-27 halftime edge and put together a 13-4 run early in the second half. Dave Labonte added 17 points and Matt Wheelock contributed 12 for the Mustangs (11-7).

Chris Lawes paced the Capitals (13-2) with 24 points and Chris Tibbetts chipped in with 13.

Colby 75, Wesleyan 55

WATERVILLE – Nick Farrell drained 26 points as Colby upended Wesleyan 75-55 in men’s basketball Friday night.

The point guard also added five rebounds and five steals as the Mules raised their record to 9-8 overall and 1-2 in NESCAC. Adam Choice and Jon Brandi each connected for 12 points in the win.

Wesleyan (5-10, 1-1) was led by Robert Kelly’s 15 points while Jared Ashe scored 10.

UMA 75, Unity 53

UNITY – Jonathan Hill scored 17 points and yanked down 10 rebounds, while Deon Cheers added 16 points and dished out six assists to help the University of Maine at Augusta men’s basketball team even its record at .500 with a 75-53 victory over Unity.

Cheers also made four steals to spark the Moose (6-6). Eric Sobey added 11 points, while Dan Duplissie added 10.

Brandon Coones led Unity (3-9) with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.

Bowdoin 74, Connecticut 46

BRUNSWICK – Kevin Bradley led all scorers with 15 points as Bowdoin routed Connecticut College 74-46 in NESCAC men’s basketball action Friday.

The Camels (10-7) came out firing to take an early 14-6 edge, but the Polar Bears (9-5) responded with a 30-9 run of their own to take a 39-23 lead at the midpoint. Jeff Young paced the Camels with a team-high 12 points.

Bradley made all 15 of his points for the Polar Bears on 3-point tallies, while Andrew Hippert and Jordan Fleigel contributed 13 points apiece. Bowdoin hit 53 percent of its 3-point attempts on the evening.

UMF 68, Castleton State 53

FARMINGTON – Junior Sean Fry popped in 20 points for the second game in a row and hauled down a career-high 18 rebounds as the University of Maine at Farmington defeated Castleton State 68-53 in men’s basketball Friday.

The Beavers (6-8, 3-1) used a late 17-8 run to open up a 40-38 lead with just over 10 minutes to play.

Josh Tanguay turned in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the home team.

Josh Howe was Castleton State’s top scorer with 19 points.

Men’s hockey

USM 7, UMass-Boston 2

BOSTON – Pat Noonan triggered a six-goal explosion in the third period as the University of Southern Maine overcame a two-goal deficit and garnered a 7-2 win over UMass-Boston in men’s hockey Friday.

Noonan’s goal at the 1:21 mark tied the score at 2-2. Less than two minutes later, Chris Sparkes lit the lamp to give the Huskies (10-5-1 overall, 7-2-1 in the ECAC East) the lead for good. Noonan ended the night with two goals and a pair of assists. Mike Stevens, Mark Carragher and Chris Helms also tallied in the pivotal third period. David Beckles turned aside 16 shots to collect the win in goal.

Adam Larrabee and Kyle Simpson scored for the Beacons (4-11-1, 2-8-0). Ryan Donovan and Chris Testa combined to stop 51 shots for the home squad.

Women’s basketball

NHTI 87, CMCC 44

AUBURN – Jen Roy and Britta Smith combined for 39 points as New Hampshire Technical Institute jumped out to an early lead and exploded in the second half for an 87-44 win over Central Maine Community College in women’s basketball action Friday.

The Capitals (10-1) took a 33-18 halftime lead, and received fine offensive support from Kathie Murphy (12), Christen Peak (10) and Sarah Mckean (10) along the way.

Tiffany Seams shared a game-high 20 points with Roy, while teammate Ashley Quimby chipped in with 14 points for the Mustangs (6-7).

Wesleyan 60, Colby 43

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Winthrop’s Emilie Knight scored 10 points to help push Wesleyan past Colby, 60-43, in a NESCAC women’s basketball contest.

Ali Fourney led the Cardinals (11-3, 2-0) with 16 points. Wesleyan scored the final nine points of the first half to take a 29-18 lead into the break.

Allison Cappelloni notched eight points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for Colby (3-11, 0-3).

Bowdoin 81, Conn,. College 28

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Connecticut native Eileen Flaherty poured in a game-high 23 points to lift Bowdoin to an 81-28 triumph over Connecticut College in NESCAC women’s basketball action Friday.

The Camels (8-7) took an early 8-7 lead with a field goal from Laura Coderre at the 15:04 mark. But, Bowdoin used a 27-to-4 run over a span of just under nine minutes to build a comfortable 39-13 lead.

Flaherty capped the rally with two of her 14 first-half points, and the Polar Bears (16-1) carried a 43-19 lead into the break. Bowdoin continued to extend its lead in the second half right down to the final buzzer.

UMF 55, Castleton State 54

FARMINGTON – Kari Simpson’s layup with 15 seconds remaining in overtime proved to be the game winner as the University of Maine at Farmington beat Castleton State 55-54 in women’s basketball Friday.

Simpson led the Beavers (10-3, 6-0) with 20 points while freshman forward Caitlyn Laflin chipped in with 14.

Castleton State was paced by Carley Amedore’s 17 points. LeeAnne Ketchen added 10.

Thomas 77, Johnson State 71

WATERVILLE – Kim Drosdik of Farmington scored 12 points to help Thomas College trip Johnson State, 77-71, in overtime.

Leah McNary led the Terriers (10-5) with 24 points. Thomas opened OT with an 11-2 run en route to its sixth straight North Atlantic Conference victory. Casey Rusin topped Johnson State with 17 points.
