WILTON – The “Art of Watercolor,” with art instructor Barbara Hathaway, has been listed in the SAD 9 Adult and Community Education brochure. Classes will be held for six weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, starting March 1, at the Hathaway Studio.

Students will learn how watercolor shows the beauty of the palette as they apply watercolor washes by the Michael Wilcox technique. Hathaway is a registered instructor with the Michael Wilcox School of Color.

Sky, sunsets and reflections will begin a scene. Mountains and trees fill the middle ground as the student creates a landscape and ideas evolve on paper. The class is for beginners to semi-pro. Registration fee is $50 for local students and $60 for students outside the local area.

Hathaway is a member of Upcountry Artist, Portland Museum of Art and the National Museum of Women in the Arts and has been an art instructor for adult education programs for several years. She is also the art development chairwoman for the Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs, which offers opportunity in the arts for high school students to exhibit their art talents.

Materials needed are watercolor paper 140 lbs., watercolor paints and brushes. To register for the class, call Adult Ed at 778-3460 or for more information, Hathaway at 645-3449.
