Church speaker

OXFORD – Betty Williams, who has spent a lifetime experiencing the adventure of “doing the Lord’s work,” will share her story at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Hosanna Church.

Williams spent many years in the mission field in Brazil and many years teaching school. She will have her book, “Mamma Can You Hear Me?,” with her. Williams will also share a video presentation, which will be projected on the church’s big screen.

All are welcome to the special event. The church is located at 109 Schoolhouse Road in Welchville. Call the church office at 539-2295 for more information.

Selling trees

PARIS – The Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District is selling trees and shrubs. Those interested can stop by the office and pick up a brochure or call Heidi at 743-5789, ext. 101. The district will take orders until March 22. Pick-up date will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Oxford County Fairgrounds.

The district also has trout for sale to put in ponds. Order forms and stocking permits are available at the office. The last day to order trout is May 11. The trout will be delivered at the office at noon Thursday, May 15. People must have their permit from Augusta when picking up the trout.

Seats available

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Travelers still have a few seats left for Stars On Ice for March 24.

There will also be a trip to the Norlands Living History Center in Livermore on June 20. Those going will have a chicken pie dinner served family-style in the old farmhouse kitchen by women in period costume.

After lunch they will adjourn to the one-room schoolhouse where they will participate in a laugh and learn experience followed by a trip to the library.

Spare time may be used to visit the general store or explore the grounds. Cost is $63 a person, with a down payment of $25 by March 1 and the remainder by May 1.

Film aired

WOODSTOCK – The Woodstock Historical Society viewed a video, “They Came by Sea,” at its January meeting. Various activities were examined such as fishing, shipbuilding, commerce and coastal tourism. During the business meeting, members ordered T-shirts with the society logo. Curator Larry Billings talked briefly on the Rothschilds and won the mystery package.
