VFW meeting

LEWISTON – The Longley Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at noon Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. The agenda will include upcoming activities. All eligible veterans wishing to join the VFW should attend.

Birding trip

GEORGETOWN – Merrymeeting Audubon will sponsor a field trip, “Birding: Reid State Park,” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 3.

Participants will search for species of coastal birds, including grebes, loons and scoters that use the area. They will also look for short-eared owls, purple sandpipers and wintering songbirds.

Those going should meet at Griffith Head parking lot, Reid State Park, at 9 a.m., bring snacks/lunch and dress warmly. For additional information, contact trip coordinators Chuck Huntington, 725-5657, or John Howland, 725-6734.

Parenting program

LEWISTON – Kids First Parenting Through Separation and Divorce is a four-hour program for parents who are in the process of separation or divorce who wish to lessen the negative impact experienced by their children.

Advocates for Children will offer the course from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Feb. 10, March 3 and April 14, at the Lepage Conference Center’s Potvin Room. Registration is required. To register, call 783-3990. Fee is $60 and limited scholarships are available.

Advocates for Children is a participating United Way agency.

Line dancing

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens will offer a new beginner line dancing class on Mondays at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. Those interested are asked to call the office about what time of the day would be most convenient. The number is 784-2926, ext. 207. A new class will begin as soon as there are six people. Classes will be taught by Rina Cloutier.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners of the New England-wide STaC (sectional tournament at clubs) game held at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 22 were: first, Cynthia and Bill Clifford; second, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; third, Renette and Joe Reinhardt; fourth, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; fifth, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for information about all duplicate bridge games.
