TURNER – Winter-spring classes for SAD 52 Adult and Community Education for Greene, Leeds and Turner will be starting shortly.

There will be a special one-night program, “Bully-Proofing Your Child,” on Thursday, Feb. 1. Parents can teach children peaceful, assertive ways to stand up to students who bully them.

Also on Feb. 1, there will be a one-time class on Valentine pockets. Participants will create a pocket that can be filled with flowers, gifts or homemade cookies.

An eight-week biology class will start Monday, Feb. 5. Students will study the cellular process, organismal biology, genetics, ecology and the environment. Lab time, as well as video presentations, will be a part of the class. It is appropriate for individuals who want to apply to college or are looking for diploma credit.

An eight-week yoga class will start Feb. 5. A beginning computer will also begin Feb. 5. It will give students an introduction to Windows, the Internet, e-mail and word processing.

A six-week belly dance class will also start Feb. 5. Participants will learn basic movements, styles, combinations and improvisations, as well as history of the dance. There will be a second session commencing March 26.

Five driver education classes will be offered this semester, with 30 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of driving in each.

Commencing Tuesday, Feb. 6, welding will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights for eight weeks. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of arc welding in all positions, safety procedures, proper welding supplies and equipment.

Chemistry with lab will also start Feb. 6, with classes Tuesday and Thursday for seven weeks. It is for students who have not had chemistry before and will cover basic concepts and some mathematical approaches.

A fine arts class will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 7, and participants will create pieces of art from favorite old or new photographs. They will learn by doing in the six-week class concentrating on the use of value, aerial perspective and edge variation. Watercolor, acrylics, oil pastels, pastels, pen and ink and pencil will be included.

A 12-week general science class structured for students enrolled in a diploma program of study will also start Feb. 7. A variety of material will help students achieve an understanding of numerous scientific facts.

Learn Microsoft Office 2000 in classes commencing Thursday, Feb. 8. Introductory concepts and techniques will cover Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Word processing skills, how to create a simple spreadsheet and how to wow an audience with a presentation will be covered.

French 1 and Spanish I for beginners will start the week of Feb. 12. A 10-week quilt addiction class will begin Tuesday, Feb. 13. Make a few toss pillows, a table runner or a baby quilt. Learn how to use the rotary cutter, mat and rulers to make quilts the fast, easy way.

A pharmacy technician certificate 12-week course will also start Feb. 13. As a pharmacy technician, people will help the licensed pharmacist with the necessary day-today services that a pharmacy provides.
