Jesus Party celebrating 12-year anniversary

LEWISTON – The Jesus Party has announced its month-long schedule of special events in celebration of the ministry’s 12-year anniversary at JP Headquarters, 291 Bates St.

On Friday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m., Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil, the world’s most famous groundhog, will be used to teach a spiritual lesson titled “Without a Shadow of a Doubt.” A 23-minute video to inform children about the science behind the change of seasons, hibernation and shadows will be shown.

There will be “Faith, Food and Football” pre-game Super Bowl fun at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. The evening will be divided into four quarters, starting with a sing-a-long of action songs; “Life-Long Lessons Learned” through the game of football; a half-time buffet; football bloopers, games and prizes.

The annual Valentine’s Social will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. The evening will consist of an arrangement of love songs to the Lord, chocolate goodies and Shirley Temples. Each child will receive a carnation to take home and give to a loved one. All attending will have the opportunity to win door prizes of Valentine teddy bears and candy.

Valentine craft time will be held at 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Feb. 10. Children will put together a holiday craft, learn about God’s love for humanity and have a snack.

Presidents’ Birthday Weekend will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Patriotic mentor, Jerry DerBoghosian, will lead children in the “Pledge of Allegiance” and a prayer for President George W. Bush. He will share highlights on “Honest Abe’s” Emancipation Proclamation. Birthday cake will be served.

Saturday, Feb. 17, at 9 a.m., children will honor the father of the nation, George Washington, and learn about the general’s military exploits by retracing his steps from “the shot heard ’round the world” at Lexington to the days of Valley Forge and on to a new nation and final peace in 1783. The “Star Spangled Banner” will be sung, and breakfast will be served.

Vacation Bible School revival services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, Feb. 18 to 22. Each night children will explore two of the 10 Commandments through animated mini-movies that are entertaining and educational. Fun songs, prizes and snacks will be included.

Friday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m., Black History Month will be noted. The story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad will be told. Snacks will be provided.

Children will have a fellowship breakfast, “Prayer, Praise and Pancakes,” in observance of National Pancake Week at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.
