AUBURN – Robert J. Sargent, 72, of Poland, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Hospice House.

He was born in Oxford on March 10, 1934, the son of Wallace and Bessie (Muller) Sargent.

He worked as a chauffeur for Poland Spring Resort, Norway Shoe and retired from Pioneer Plastics in Auburn after 25 years of service.

He was a lifelong sportsman who loved fishing hunting and golf. He was also an avid reader.

For many years he was a member of Summit Golf Club in Poland and SAM.

He is survived by his longtime partner, Irene Lynch of Poland; daughters, Penny Sargent and her partner, Rose Cleary, of Poland, Martha Sargent and her husband, Dennis, of South Paris, Sherrill Grant of Lewiston, and Carolee Sargent of South Paris; sisters, Barbara Plummer of Raymond and Marilyn Taylor of Lewiston; brothers Richard Sargent of Auburn, Stanley Sargent of Georgia, Rodney Sargent of Lewiston, and Roger Sargent of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Albert Grant and his wife, Haley, of Harrison, Diana Grant of Mars Hill, Scott Grant of Lewiston, Melissa Locke of North Carolina, and Kathryn Cleary of Poland; great-grandchildren, Evan and Chloe Grant of Mars Hill, and Hunter Grant of Harrison.

He was predeceased by his parents.
