FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Sheriff’s transport van was struck in the rear by another vehicle Thursday.

Transport Deputy Albert Smith had several stops to make that day, including at Androscoggin Superior Court in Auburn and locations in Portland and Farmington, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ray Meldrum said.

When he finished his run, Smith brought the vehicle home that night and backed it into a parking spot.

Smith didn’t notice the damage to the rear corner on the driver’s side until Friday morning, Meldrum said. It wasn’t clear where the damage had happened.

Damage was estimated at $2,100, including destroying the van’s rear door, he said.
