LEWISTON – The last thing that went right for Edward Little on Tuesday night was also the first.

Just 47 seconds in, captain Chris Carver banged a rebound past St. Dom’s netminder Max Wiley to give the Eddies a one-goal lead.

That euphoria lasted all of 56 seconds.

Dustin Oberlander started the avalanche at 1:43 of the opening frame and watched as five teammates added seven more goals in the next 13:17 to stake the Saints to an impressive seven-goal, first-period lead.

Sheldon Roy and Ben Randall led St. Dom’s with hat tricks, Alex Tyburski had a goal and three assists and 11 Saints finished the with multi-point nights as they cruised to a 15-3 win at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

“We needed a big game like this,” St. Dom’s coach John Pleau said. “Every point we can take now is big.”

Edward Little spent most of the season ranked No. 1 or 2 in the Heal Points, but Tuesday saw the Eddies slide back to fourth in the East. The loss to St. Dom’s on Tuesday night certainly didn’t help their cause, either.

“We got the first goal, and we were done,” EL coach Craig Latuscha said. “They got that one, got content, and the tent fell down.”

The Saints, meanwhile, are looking to start a climb through the ranks. They started Tuesday perched precariously close to missing the playoffs in the West.

“This was big going into Biddeford (today),” Pleau said. “We shuffled the lines a bit, and some of the kids were upset with being moved around, but every line scored tonight, and they all played well together.”

Lost in the offense St. Dom’s generated Tuesday was another solid outing from one of its goaltenders. Max Wiley stopped 18 shots as the Saints have gone now to a rotating, three-goalie system.

“Emerson played a good game Saturday against Lewiston, and I thought Wiley played well tonight, too,” Pleau said. “We’re going to watch all three play and pick one going into the playoffs.”

After Oberlander evened the score in the first, Andrew Gwarjanski followed at 3:44 with the go-ahead score. Ben Randall, Roy, Jacob Rutt and C.J. Bergeron followed with six more to put the Saints ahead 8-1.

“When all cylinders are going, this team is tough to beat,” Pleau said.

Roy completed his hat trick in the third, Tyburski potted his goal, Rutt fired his second past Adam Loudermilk in as many periods, and D.J. Morin pushed the St. Dom’s lead to 12-1.

Corey Binette added the Eddies’ second goal of the game at 6:35 of the third, and after three more Saints’ goals – including two from Casey Parker – Tyler Babb closed out the wild game with a rebound in front of Wiley.
