BERLIN, N.H. – Laurette Dugas, 96, passed away in the late afternoon hours on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Coos County Nursing Home where she has been residing the last four years.
She was born in Black Lake, P.Q., on Jan. 29, 1911, a daughter of the late Aurele and Elizabeth (Boucher) Napert. The family moved to Berlin when Laurette was 8 years old, and she was a lifelong resident thereafter.
She attended local schools, and was married to Wilfred Dugas. Together, they raised a son and two daughters, and lived for many years on Hillsboro Street in the home that Laurette’s father built.
She held various jobs in Berlin, retiring in 1973 as a telephone operator for St. Louis Hospital.
A longtime East Side resident, Laurette was extremely active in the former Guardian Angel Parish. She served as a Eucharistic minister as well as a lector. In earlier years, Laurette was involved with the Ladies of St. Anne, the Marie Rivier Association as well as the Association of the Presentation of Mary and the OMI Missionary Circle. She was also a former member of the Americaine Canados Association.
In recent years, Laurette enjoyed painting and was even awarded first place for one of her paintings that was displayed at the Lancaster Fair. She will be sadly missed by her friends and family.
Laurette is survived by her son, Jean Louis Dugas and his wife, Joanne, of Traverse City, Mich.; her daughters, Lorraine Langlois and her husband, Jean and Helene Vallieres, all of Berlin, N.H. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her very special “family,” the Croteaus.
She was predeceased by her parents, as well as by her loving husband, Wilfred Dugas, on Nov. 6, 1972. She is also predeceased by her brother, Paul Napert, and her sister, Armandine Berthiaume.
