KENNEBUNK – Ruth E. (Parent) Soucy, 92, was taken to heaven by angels on Jan. 30 after a short illness.
She was born in Auburn, on Oct. 3, 1914, daughter of the late Romeo and Mary Ann Parent.
Ruth married the late Arthur Soucy in 1939 who worked for H.P. Hood as the head bookkeeper helping dairy farmers keep good records. They were married for 37 years.
Family and friends were her passion, but her three dogs Duncan, Sabrina and Barkley, were her world; they are now lost without her.
Ruth managed the family variety store “Pops” on Third Street in Auburn for many years. She also assisted her cousins Dr. Bert Chabot and Dr. Fern Chabot in their dental practice.
Coming out of retirement, she worked at the Family Patch Florist and Nursery in Scarborough with her nephew, Paul Parent and family. She cared for the flowers, the customers and co-workers as if they were her family. Red flowers of all types got extra care and attention.
She was past president of the Martindale Country Club Womens’ Association where she was responsible for many fundraisers and also a member of the L.A. Skating Club for many winters. She skated until age 60 and played golf until age 89. Ruth was also an active member of St. Louis Church in Auburn.
Ruth leaves eight nieces; five nephews; as well as many grand- and great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers Armand, Rene and Roland Parent.
