PARIS – Selecting and preparing foods can be a real challenge for a person with diabetes. People with diabetes will have a chance to learn how to prepare good-tasting, healthy foods at a series offered by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
“Diabetes: Eating Matters” is a four-part workshop series on providing meals for the person with or at risk for type 2 diabetes.
The series will include selecting foods for the person with diabetes, understanding carbohydrates, preparing good-tasting, healthy foods and understanding portions. Participants will also have an opportunity to sample healthy foods at each session.
The series will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, Feb. 9, 16, 23 and March 2 (snow date: March 9) at the Extension Office, Olson Road, South Paris. Wendy Legg Pollock, Extension educator, will lead the workshop.
The cost is $12 a person, with an additional $6 for another person from the same family. Scholarships are available. Registration and fee are due by Monday, Feb. 5. Space is limited. Call the Extension Office at 743-6329 or 1-800-287-1482 for more information.
