PORTLAND (AP) – Dr. Margaret Greenwald has been appointed to a second term as Maine’s chief medical examiner following the completion of the so-called brain harvesting investigation.

Gov. John Baldacci reappointed Greenwald last Friday, two days after federal and state prosecutors said they would not file criminal charges in a probe into a Maryland research lab that collected brains from deceased Mainers through the state medical examiner’s office.

The governor waited until after the investigation was completed before reappointing Greenwald, said Baldacci spokesman David Farmer.

Greenwald’s first seven-year term ended in June 2005. Her second term will expire in 2014.
