LEWISTON – A driver whose blood alcohol level was nearly three times over the legal limit clipped a pedestrian with her car before she was arrested, police said.

The vehicle driven by Brandi Barbioni, 19, of Mount Vernon veered off Main Street near Central Maine Medical Center onto the shoulder or sidewalk. The side-view mirror hit a male pedestrian, police reports said.

The pedestrian was interviewed later, but refused medical treatment. He called police Friday to say he planned to seek medical attention at a hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. An incomplete police report did not include his age or address nor a description of her vehicle.

The driver in a vehicle behind Barbioni witnessed the incident. That driver followed Barbioni into a parking lot farther down Main Street then called police, giving a description of her vehicle.

Police said Barbioni’s blood-alcohol content exceeded the legal limit of .08 percent nearly threefold. She was charged with operating under the influence.

At least three people had called 911 to report her vehicle swerving all over the road, police said.
