PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Philippe Sauve stopped 23 shots as the Providence Bruins beat the Portland Pirates 6-1 on Friday night for their fifth consecutive win.

The Bruins scored three goals in the first period and remain unbeaten over their past 11 games.

Eight Bruins registered at least one point, while Kris Versteeg, Matt Lashoff, Jeff Hoggan and Peter Kalus each had a goal and an assist.

Providence scored twice in a 37-second time span of the first, with T.J. Trevelyan netting his 15th of the season and Versteeg scored his 22nd goal, the eventual game-winner, at 10:40 to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.

Brett Skinner spoiled Sauve’s shutout bid at 7:57 of the second period, breaking in from the right wing and beating the Providence netminder for his sixth goal of the season.

Dov Grumet-Morris allowed all six goals in the Portland net. He made 22 saves.
