LEWISTON – Therese G. Lemieux, 78, of 26 Second St., died Friday Feb. 2, at Montello Manor with her family by her side.

Born in Lewiston on June 18, 1928, a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Azilda Belanger Gagne, she was educated at Holy Cross School.

She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Holy Cross Seniors and worked at Pepperell Mfg. Co. and Knapp Shoe, from where she retired.

She loved spending time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren and her best friends, Laura Michel and Jackie Vaillancourt.

She enjoyed working with crafts and was well-known in the craft fairs in the Central Maine area. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her courage throughout her long illness.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lionel of Lewiston, whom she married at Holy Cross Church on Sept. 27, 1947; her daughters, Susan Lemieux of Chicopee, Mass., Christine Nile and husband, David, of Lewiston, and Lena Vitagliano and husband, James, of Manchester, N.H.; her sons, Denis Lemieux and wife, Carlene, of Auburn, Donald Lemieux and wife, Anita, of Florida, Dr. Michael C. Lemieux of Oakland, and Guy Lemieux and wife, Debbie, of Turner; grandchildren, Danielle and Peter Fernholz, Nicole and Jamie Wilkinson, Celeste, Keith and Michelle Lemieux, Thomas, Denis and Andrei Lemieux, Melanie and Jason Voye, Sara Lemieux, Tony and Trisha Nile, and Dante and Dario Vitagliano; great-grandchildren, Peter and Sophia, Abigail and Madeline, Ethan and Lilly and Cameron; her sisters, Florence Michaud and husband, Paul, of Cumberland Foreside and Priscilla Bazinet of Lewiston; her brothers-in-law, Donald and wife, Lurline, and Leo and Raymond Lemieux.

She was predeceased by three children, Jim, Maurice and Chris’s twin; a great-grandson, Joseph; her sisters, Victoria Bouffard, Cecile Gagne, Marguerite Samson and Dorothy Couture; and seven brothers.

The family wishes to thank Dr. George Morrissette, Dr. Roger Austin, Androscoggin Hospice House and Montello Manor Health Care & staff for their support during her illness.
