PARIS – A Paris woman was sentenced Friday to 30 days in the county jail for breaking into an acquaintance’s apartment on Paris Street in Norway and taking her antique china.
Tina Ryan, 23, was arrested Feb. 13, 2006. Her husband, Steven, was arrested the next day and was recently sentenced to six months in the county jail. He was charged with burglary and receiving stolen property.
The burglary occurred a few days earlier, when the Ryans drove the woman to a Portland hospital to visit a friend. Knowing she would be gone overnight, the couple slipped into her apartment and stole the china, which they later pawned for cash at an Oxford flea market, prosecutors said.
When police confronted Tina Ryan about the burglary, she broke down and admitted she committed the crime because her family needed money, court officials said.
Tina Ryan was not ordered to pay restitution because the china was recovered. She will be on probation for one year and have to perform 50 hours of public service.
Ryan’s attorney, Kelly McMorran, would not comment on the outcome of the case.
