NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) – The family of the New Hampshire fisherman lost and presumed drowned at sea is thanking searchers for their efforts and the community for its support. The Coast Guard suspended the search Friday for the Lady Luck and its crewmen: Dan Miller, 21, of North Hampton, and skipper Sean Cone, 24, of North Andover, Mass.
“Daniel loved the ocean,” the family said in a statement released Saturday. “He was lost at sea while doing something that he truly loved to do in life and will be missed greatly.”
Debris and a distress beacon from the Lady Luck, a 52-foot fishing boat based in Newburyport, Mass., were spotted off Cape Elizabeth, Maine. But there was no sign of Cone or Miller. The boat disappeared early Thursday.
In the statement, the family thanked the Coast Guard and other agencies involved in the disappointing search, and praised the young skipper.
“The Miller family wishes to extend their condolences to the family of Captain Sean Cone, who they recognize for his strong seamanship, capable skills and safe vessel,” the statement said.
A celebration of Miller’s life will be held Monday at the Inn at Hampton from 4-8 p.m.
