RUMFORD – Maurice E. Gogan, 93, of Black Bridge Road in Mexico, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Rumford Community Home after a brief illness.

He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on Nov. 13, 1913, a son of Edouard and Alvina (Bourque) Goguen. Maurice was educated in Rumford Schools.

He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Maurice was employed for 19 years as a welder for Boise Cascade. Prior to this, he was employed by Norton Abrasive and Harrington Richardson Arms, both in Worcester, Mass., and for several years served as sexton at St. John Cemetery in Rumford.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Maurice loved gardening, fishing, hunting and especially loved his tomato plants and peach tree.

Surviving are a sister, Yvonne Bourgea of Worcester, Mass.; three brothers, Leo Goguen of Michigan, Roger Goguen of New York and Roland Goguen of Millinocket; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Pauline (Pepin) Gogan; three brothers, Joseph, Alfred and Raymond Goguen; and two sisters, Cora and Nelida.
