Just a few days into the legislative session, the spenders we reelected are doing their thing again.

Sen. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston, is sponsoring a $25 million bond issue to improve the health of rivers in Maine. She states our rivers are critical to the development of our state.

That sounds terrific. But $25 million is like throwing money into our many rivers in the state, and watching it dissolve into absolutely nothing. All it does is make a political statement to the environmentalists in this state for future advancement in her political career. Governorship maybe? Try spending that money on food for the hungry.

If you really want to improve the economy in this state, stop the foolish spending, rethink the wind projects that were voted down last week, and most important, no new bond issues until this state has put itself in financial order.

We can only blame ourselves for having voted for the same big spenders who have put this great state in a fiscal nightmare.

Legislators should get their act together and do the right thing. There are times when you must have the courage to say “no.”
