HIRAM – A Sacopee Valley High School student remained in Oxford County Jail on Sunday night after being arrested last week on a charge of unlawful sexual contact.
Charles W. Keaten, 18, of West Baldwin confessed to Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Joshua Wyman that he had sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 14, Chief Deputy Dane Tripp said.
He was arrested Thursday and booked at the jail around 3 p.m.
Initially he was held on a $20,000 cash or $50,000 surety bail. During his initial court appearance Friday, it was lowered to $500 cash or $5,000 surety.
The incidents had been ongoing, and had been brought to the attention of a school guidance counselor, who contacted Wyman, Tripp said.
Keaten is on federal probation for a weapons violation that happened two years ago, Tripp said.
School Principal Joseph Findlay said the school has not taken disciplinary action against Keaten, and did not comment as to how school officials would proceed.
