SAVANNAH, Ga. – Aloysius Henry “Al” McCarthy Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Candler Hospital.

He was a native of Savannah and attended BC Military school. He served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1977, he moved to Maine, and worked for St. Athanasius-St. John Church for around 10 years. He then started his own cleaning business and also worked for Franklin Savings Bank.

After retiring from FSB in 2002, he then returned to his hometown of Savannah, Ga. He was a very fun loving person and will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Wade McCarthy of Savannah; four children, Becky McCarthy Knight, and her husband, Greg, of Brooklet, Ga., Peggy McCarthy Wade, and her husband, Neil, of Farmington, Aloysius Henry “Hank” McCarthy III, and his wife, Judy, of Brooklet, Ga. and Chris McCarthy of Savannah; two stepchildren, Monique Ryals of Ovid, Mich. and Eric Ryals of Dacula, Ga; two sisters, Pat Parham and Judy Degenhardt, both of Savannah, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
