PORTLAND – The Bates College all-female Merimanders will headline a one-of-a-kind, multigenerational a cappella musical concert Saturday, Feb. 10, at the University of Southern Maine campus.

The event, hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine, will begin at 7 p.m. in Hannaford Hall.

“Acappellooza 2007” features seven singing groups that have volunteered to help the local nonprofit organization raise funds to support children needing mentors in southern Maine.

The female OCDettes and the male Three Rights Make a Left represent Portland’s Waynflete High School. The co-ed Ursus Versus and all-male Meddibempsters represent Bowdoin College and the all-female Colbyettes from Colby College round out the college groups performing in the concert. The seventh group is a Portland area women’s quartet known as Daybreak.

Terri Hatt of Gray, who volunteers as a Big Sister for the agency, has coordinated and is producing the public event. “We put out the call to adult groups, colleges and high schools from around the region and we’re just thrilled with how many enthusiastic responses we’ve received,” said Hatt.

Tickets can be purchased at all Bull Moose Music locations, by calling 773-KIDS, or at the door. General admission price is $12.
