FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter, Maine Genealogical Society, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in the computer room at Mantor Library, UMF. Topic will be “Genealogy Research on the Internet,” describing information that can be found on the Internet, with explanations and suggestions on how and where to find the sites. Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.

College workshop

WILTON – An “Essentials of College Planning” workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Wilton Career Center, 865 Route 2E. The free interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills. Adviser is Christy Le. Benefit program

WILTON – The First Congregational Church of Wilton hosted a packed audience to listen to the Mt. Blue Jazz Band, Middle School Show Choir, Franklin Country Fiddlers and the Syncopations on Jan. 21.

The program, organized by Hilary Fast, benefited the Wilton Area Food Pantry that is housed in the Wilton United Methodist Church.

Money donated, more than $1,000, was sent to the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn as part of the “matching challenge funds.”

Nancy Prince, on behalf of the volunteers of the Wilton Area Food Pantry, presented Fast with a bouquet of flowers for her efforts in arranging the program.

Top spellers

FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue Middle School held its annual school spelling bee on Jan. 30. The field was narrowed down to six participants as a result of individual middle school community bees.

The top five winners will represent the school at the district bee at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Cape Cod Hill School, New Sharon. Winners were: first, Rosie Cohen; second, Morgan Spences; third, Krystal Smith; fourth, Zach Faulkner; alternate, Eli Mazza.
