FARMINGTON – Anyone who would like to act, sing, operate a giant puppet, or help with lights, sound or backstage tasks is invited to audition or sign up to participate in the Foothills Arts Center’s multimedia production “Hurricane of Change.”

The show, a community reflection on climate change, will include original music, theater scenes, shadow puppets, poetry, and parade-sized creature masks – all created by local adults and students.

The audition/sign-up day is Saturday, Feb. 10, in the Mt. Blue High School auditorium. People can come at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. and should plan to stay for about an hour-and-a-half. Anyone who wants to participate but cannot attend Feb. 10 should contact Foothills Arts Center director Anne Geller at 778-0448, or e-mail [email protected].

Auditions are specifically to choose speaking parts and solo singing parts, but everyone who signs up is welcome to be in the show. There are speaking parts for students in grades 7 and up, as well as for adults. Students in grades 5 and up, along with adults, can be in the chorus. People who want to audition for a solo singing part can bring a one-minute song excerpt to sing.

“Hurricane of Change” will be performed Wednesday, May 30, and Friday, June 1, at Mt. Blue Middle School and in a nearby town to be announced soon on Saturday, June 2.

“The Hurricane of Change” script has a dynamic combination of serious, thought-provoking scenes and light, funny moments – all calling attention to environmental threats to the beauty of western Maine and to Mother Earth, in general. The production also offers ideas on what people can do to preserve the environment.
