DOVER, N.H. (AP) – Police say Richard Saunders’ claim that there was metal in his sandwiches was just a bunch of baloney.

And it could cost the Dover man a two-year jail term, plus a $2,000 fine.

Police say 22-year-old Saunders’ scam involved convenience store sandwiches. They say he demanded refunds for sandwiches he claimed contained metal. As part of his act, police say Saunders didn’t present a sandwich or receipt, but would show store clerks metal shavings he said he found in the food.

Police say Saunders made the same claims at several local stores, but have only been able to document refunds for about $17.
