Coolatas, lattes, cookies, smoothies, donuts, muffins, French toast twists, you name it Dunkin has got it. You can’t drive very far now in the Lewiston Auburn area without spotting the very popular coffee and sweet spot we all know as Dunkin Donuts.
This business created in 1950 by Bill Rosenberg now is located in over 4,000 spots throughout America, one of its newer additions being in our little rural town Turner, Maine.
Serving over 2.5 million people every day, this giant company has now affected our high school.
Students are making commutes daily to enjoy the over 50 varieties of doughnuts and caffeinated beverages. Students and kids throughout Turner are traveling to Dunkin Donuts located across from the Androscoggin Bank from the early hours of the morning, directly after school, to the late hours of night. Doesn’t matter the time of day, Dunkin Donuts is constantly receiving business from the younger generation of Turner folk.
Constantly having Leavitt students purchase Dunkin products, is often forcing students to arrive at later times and cause trouble with their first period teachers. Teachers do not appreciate the later arrivals of students to classes such as study hall but are also seen enjoying caffeinated beverages.
Even though it makes students attend school a little later, students feel that, “It is a lot easier to start your morning with something from Dunkin Donuts…”. Student Tyler Millet says, “Dunkin stuff is awesome, its perfect in the morning, sometimes I just cant get enough of it.”
BBC and nutritional experts say that skipping breakfast is an unhealthy way to start your day. Students also say how Dunkin Donuts helps them avoid skipping breakfast, “I don’t always have time to make myself breakfast in the morning, Dunkin Donuts is a quick spot I can get a good breakfast.”
Overall the purchase of Dunkin Donuts products in the morning may cause students to come in later, but most of these students still attend on time and feel more refreshed and ready to start their day. The general feeling seems to be, Leavitt is happy about our new neighbor Dunkin Donuts.
