TAVARES, Fla. – Mary Henry Duffy, 84, of Apopka, Fla., and New Vineyard, died on Jan. 30, at the Hospice House of Lake and Sumter Counties.
She was one of eight children born to John and Ellen (Mahoney) Henry of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass. She was born on July 6, 1922, and graduated from Beverly Hospital School of Nursing.
She later joined the U.S. Army Nursing Corps and served in the Philippines during World War II. She married Wallace “Duff” Duffy, M.D., on July 15, 1945, in Lexington, S.C. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this summer.
She was a member of the Maine Medical Association Auxiliary, Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Mt. Blue Garden Club, St. Joseph’s Church, was a volunteer for the Titcomb Memorial Ski Slope and local bridge clubs in Maine and Florida.
She especially loved the beach in Florida and their “camp” on Porter Lake in Maine. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her other relatives and friends. She loved animals and befriended any that crossed her path.
She is survived by her husband, Duff; daughter, Kathy Duffy of Farmington; son, John, and Gina Duffy, of Temple; grandson, Matthew, and Kristen Duffy, of Pasadena, Md.; granddaughters, Jill Duffy of Waterbury, Conn. and Abby Vigneau of Freeport; and sisters, Alice and Bill Mahoney of Bayville, N.J. and Dorothy and Russell Newman of Annindale, Va.
