AUBURN – Yvette L. Mercier, 89, formerly of 100 Campus Ave., Lewiston, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Clover Health Care Facility, after a short illness.

She was born in Lewiston on May 28, 1917, the daughter of Ferdinand and Annie (Taylor) LeClair and had been a resident of that community for most of her youth life.

She lived and traveled with her husband in Panama, Germany and New Jersey, then returned to Lewiston in her retirement years. She was educated in Lewiston schools, was employed in Auburn in the shoe factory and also employed as a laundress at Wiley Nursing Home in New Jersey.

She married Sgt. Donald S. Mercier on June 14, 1947, and he died on April 24, 1966. She was an avid board and card game player. She shared many hours with friends and family, always the most keen observer of every opportunity to win with fun for herself and everyone else. She was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Mercier, and his wife, Kathaleen, of Newton, Mass., and Lawrence Mercier of Pittsgrove, N.J.; two grandchildren, Stephen D. Mercier II of Newton, Mass., and Danielle Mercier of Belford, N.J.; one sister, Jeannette Girardin of Lakeland, Fla.; and four nieces; and one nephew.

She was predeceased by one sister, Regina LeClair; and one brother, Gaston LeClair.
