LEWISTON – Georgette T. Rivard, 80, of 5 Kevin St., Lewiston, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 6, surrounded by her loving family at Central Maine Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Auburn on Sept. 3, 1926, the daughter of Pierre and Albertha (Landry) Lajoie and had been a resident of this community all of her life.

She was educated in Sabattus and Lewiston schools.

She married Donald J. Rivard on May 31, 1948, and he died on April 4, 2000. She co-owned and operated A. Rivard Hardware Store with her husband on Lincoln Street until her retirement in November 2001. They both took over the family business in 1965.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church.

She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, cooking, baking, going out to eat, shopping and entertaining her family during the holidays, especially Christmas, and spending her summers at her camp at Taylor Pond with her family. Besides spending time with her family, she loved babysitting her great-granddaughter Alyssa. She especially loved her daily visits from her beloved grandson Marc, whom she was very close to, who always made her laugh and put a smile on her face. She will be missed tremendously by all her family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Terry Tremblay, and her husband, Robert, of Lewiston with whom she resided and was taken care of for many years, and Joanne Charpentier, and her husband, Ron, of Poland; she very much enjoyed and looked forward to their nightly phone calls to discuss the days events; one grandson and godchild, Marc Tremblay, and his wife, Julie, of Lewiston; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Rose-Anna Tremblay of Lewiston; one great-grandchild due in August; one sister, Mariette Foisy, and her husband, Joseph, of Lewiston; her godchildren, Richard Foisy of Leeds and Patricia Fox of Fryeburg; and several nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Lionel, Roger and Romeo Lajoie.
