SOUTH PARIS – Karen L. Berry, 60, a resident of Bryant Pond and formerly of Holliston, Mass., died after a prolonged illness on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Market Square Nursing Home. A memorial service was held in Bryant Pond on Saturday, Feb. 3, with close friends and family in attendance.

She was born in Bloomington, Ind., on Sept. 16, 1946, the daughter of the late Dr. LeRoy E. Berry, and Donilda (Primard) Berry, who survives her. She spent her childhood in Holliston and graduated from Holliston High School in 1964. She went on to attend Westbrook Junior College, Maine, and also attended UMass Amherst.

She was a registered nurse. She received her nursing degree from Framingham Union Hospital of Framingham, Mass., and spent much of her adult life as a devoted “care giver,” working for the Fernald School of Waltham, Mass., Boston VNA, Androscoggin Home Health Services and various visiting nurses associations in Maine. She was an eager volunteer and always willing to help those less fortunate.

She loved crafts of all kinds. Her quilting, knitting and crocheting skills were considerable and she left us all with a variety of quality works to treasure and remember her by.

She was also a lover of all animals, and always had a wide variety of pets; she was especially fond of cats. As a young adult she worked for various veterinarians in the Framingham, Mass., area, including Dr. Slade and Dr. Green.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two brothers, Bradley K. Berry of South Paris and Michael Tatarian Berry, and his wife, Jackie, of Westford, Mass.; nieces and nephews, Justin, Tanya and Clayton Berry of South Paris, Tyler, Elisa and Brandon Berry of Westford and Jessica (Toner) Haarer of Greer, S.C.; and a dear “life long” friend, Eva Daniels, formerly of Holliston, Mass., now residing in Oxford, N.H.
