HART’S LOCATION, N.H. (AP) – An ice climber is recovering with broken bones after falling, then hanging by ropes and his harness before other climbers rescued him in Crawford Notch.
Gary Finney, 52, of Erie, Pa., was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland with broken bones in both legs, Fish and Game said.
Climber Mark Synnott heard Finney’s calls for help on Thursday. He completed his climb, then rappelled about 100 feet down to Finney.The injured climber wrapped his legs around Synnott, who lowered them to safety.
Other climbers retrieved a litter from an emergency cache and carried Finney out to an ambulance.
