AUBURN – It takes some 20 volunteers to manage the High Street Community Food Pantry, plus participation from four churches: High Street Congregational UCC, United Methodist Church of Auburn, St. Michael’s Episcopal Parish and West Auburn Congregational UCC.

The pantry is located in the High Street church at 106 Pleasant St. It is open from 10 a.m. to noon every Thursday and is one of several food pantries in the Lewiston/Auburn area.

The High Street Food Pantry currently distributes a week-end supply of canned and boxed food to about 25 shoppers or 75 family members. The total number for 2006 was 892 shoppers, representing 2,394 family members.

Volunteers purchase, stock, inventory and distribute food to area shoppers. They also raise funds and other resources for the pantry.

The pantry purchases food from the Good Shepherd Food Bank and receives USDA surplus food via Community Concepts. Interested persons are invited to visit the food pantry any Thursday.
