NORWAY – Police say a tattoo artist who recently moved from Norway to Otisfield sexually abused a girl younger than 14.

Rodney A. Heath, also known as Rodney Shackley, 32, now residing at 970 Gore Road in Otisfield, is charged with felony counts of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact. He was arrested around 9 a.m. Friday after a monthlong investigation by the Norway Police Department.

Heath has told officials that he did not commit either crime.

Norway Police Detective Gary Hill said the girl’s family reported to him that Heath had been having sex with the young girl.

No bail was set at the time of booking Friday morning. During his initial appearance in court, a judge set bail at $5,000 cash or $15,000 property. A jail official said Friday evening that he was still in the Oxford County Jail, and likely wasn’t going to make bail.

Prior to his arrest, Heath was out on bail with another unlawful sexual contact charge pending, where police reports state that he raped and assaulted a woman last summer. He was indicted on felony counts of unlawful sexual contact and aggravated criminal trespassing, and a misdemeanor count of assault on Oct. 5.

Records show that he was also arrested Jan. 23 by the Paris Police Department on a charge of violating bail conditions.
