CHESTERVILLE – The Planning Board will hold a public hearing Tuesday to discuss a proposal to double the lot size minimum in the town’s land use ordinance.

The minimum lot size now is 20,000 square feet, which is under a half-acre, Code Enforcement Officer Brenda Medcoff said. The board wants to increase it to 40,000 square feet, which is less than an acre.

The increased lot size would only affect new lots, she said. Existing lots would be grandfathered with the 20,000 minimum lot size, she said.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the town office.

Voters will have the final say on the amendment at the annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the town office.
