Rumford – Billy R. White, 81, a resident of Common Road in Dixfield, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 11, at Rumford Community Hospital.
He was born on May 9, 1925, in Smoke Run, Pa., the son of Clarence and Retta Pearl (Ball) White. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On July 23, 1985, he married Jeannette C. Stetson of Jay at Wier’s Beach on the Mt. Washington cruise boat. Billy worked at International Paper Co. in Jay as a machine tender on No. 3 paper machine, retiring in 1987. He also owned BJ’s Trailer Park in Jay for 25 years.
He was a member of the IP Quarter Century Club, VFW, Post 3335 of Jay, Amvets, Post 33 of Jay and the Eagles Club 1248. He loved to travel, go camping and have cookouts with the family. He also enjoyed his sports car “MGA.”
He is survived by his wife of Dixfield; sons and their wives, Dale and Patty White of Turner, Steven and Laurie White of North Turner, Ken White of Livermore Falls, Ronnie White of Lebanon, Conn. and Duane “Gene” and Lynda White of Livermore; daughters, Sandra Townsend of Lebanon, Conn. and Faith, and her husband, Paul Deweirdt, of Newington, Conn.; the mother of his children, Mary White of Livermore Falls; stepchildren, Tony Savage, and his companion, Debbie Loadwick, of Skowhegan, Jim Savage, and his wife, Ronda, of Oakland, Darlene, and her husband, Steve Bell, of North Anson, Sandra, and her husband, Jim Murphy, of St. Simmons Island, Ga., Glenda, and her husband, David Lewis, of Norridgewock, Annette, and her husband, Gary Hilton, of Norridgewock, Theda Strout, and her companion, George Lint, of Winslow and Martha, and her husband, Dwayne Bilodeau, of Livermore; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 25 stepgrandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter; a grandson, Derrick Bachelder; a stepson, Michael Savage; a stepgrandson, Seth Savage; brothers, Verel White, Correll White, Russel White and Harve White; and sisters, Marjorie Darly and Marion Burns.
