I was appalled and deeply disturbed that state Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello is co-sponsoring LD 146, a bill that would “remove prohibitions on having a loaded firearm or crossbow in a motor vehicle for someone other than the holder of a concealed weapon permit.”
This bill, which is also disturbing to local law enforcement officials, would enable anyone to drive around with a loaded weapon in their car. At a time when there are increased incidents of road rage, domestic violence, suicide and other gun violence, a bill like this, with no common sense reason, is just plain wrong.
When will our legislators understand that a majority of Mainers favor sensible gun control? Offering a bill like this is not only ignoring the wishes of their constituents, but it is also putting all of us in harm’s way.
